Dialog Questions & Answers
Dialog is created when two objects form a conversation between one another. It can be described as interaction between two things; an informal exchanging of views.
2. How is a sense of space/place defined?
Space is defined as the sum of all matter which is ultimately defined as you want.
3. How is the idea of system generated?
A system is composed of several parts which creates one unit. It can be generated by formulating ideas and composing them to work together
4. How does the joinery support the project concept/strategies?
Joinery helps support the idea and concept behind this project by allowing the object
5. How is scale utilized in the project?
Scale is utilized to give the designer and viewer a maximum capacity that their initial idea would work. It Allows the eye to be constricted to actual size of the object.
6. How do two-dimensional images add to the understanding of the project?
2-D provides more detail and simplifies the actual object
7. How did the initial project idea evolve?
The idea evolve by experimenting with the bristol boards and skewers and making things in modules and finally linking them together somehow to create a space between the two.

Comparison of Unity Projects

As I observed other students work during the Final Critique of Part 1 of “Unity,” I saw some similarities within my project and other classmates. I found Christy Wallace’s to be very similar, yet different from mine. She has created triangular variations within the skewers and planes. Her object is very unified as it creates a logical structure as mine does. We both share the simplistic idea of our objects. However, although we both have incorporated layering in our objects, they are very different.
Her use of modules and mine are very different. She used six separate triangles and connected them together by the skewers; while actually layered my planes in sets of modules, then used the skewers to connect them. The repetition in both of our patterns also differs as I intended to repeat the same pattern of skewers and she repeated the same pattern of triangles.
The unification is shown in both of our projects as we used the same concepts around different ideas to create an object.

STUDIO THEORY HOUR(S)
This movie was on the decreasing supply of oil and the rising demand for all other goods in Central America. It showed how an economy was struggling but yet managed to use their minimal resources to continue with everyday life.
Their transit system was modified into a a truck pulling beds with a canopy on it. People had to wait up to three hours for a bus to transport them from home to work. The "buses" held 300 people and were sometimes to full to pick up any other passengers. The government then issued bicycles to their citizens to help ease the amount of fuel being used and travelers inconvenienced on a daily bases.
In the 1970s King Hubbert predicted that the Worlds supply of oil will be half gone by the year of 2010. In my opinion, for someone to predict something as accurate is amazing, yet scary. Here it is 2008 and finding a gas station that has pump gas is rare.
Today in Studio Theory Hour there was a guest speaker named John Lynn, who talked about the importance of sustainability. I found
He also talked a lot about 2030, the type of approach that is practiced in architecture. It is a serious issue that architects have committed to give deep thought to when creating new structures. [www.sustainability2030.com.]
He introduced his ideas in a way that appealed to me in a unique way as far as national preservation is concerned. Issues such as this require clarification and attention. We [as humans] general have the biggest impact on the environment and
UNITY

Gesture

Plan

Contour
1st Iteration:Simply played around and experimented with the paper and skewers to try and incorporate them into one object. I found my end product to be very powerful in the essence and use of triangles that are held together by the skewers.
2nd Iteration:

Second attempt, I found myself experimenting with the paper more and discovering that I wanted to continue my concept with triangle. This is a top view of my second iteration of what I consider to be UNITY.

Front View of second iteration of UNITY. I like and understand how the modules relate to one another, however, it does not symbolize UNITY between the skewers and Bristol boards.
3rd Iteration:
Third iteration of UNITY involved me cutting my work down and actually layering the 4x6 Bristol boards in order to produce a sturdier product. I find this to hold simplicity. However, it is not quite unified as a whole.

This view shows the detail within my second iteration and emphasizes the crossing of the skewers to form small triangles in the middle which coincides with my original idea. I find the center to show more unity than the outer perimeter.
This is the final product of [UNITY].I have re-modeled my structure to incorporate unity both inside and out. The outer structure creates a triangle that is not completely enclosed. And within the skewers, I have created another set of triangle that bring all three of them together as a whole. The space between the triangles show the unification of the project as a whole.

A Place for 12 Twigs Project
This concept was developed from the thought of a "pocket." That pocket was considered my place for the Twigs. This is two cut pieces of a folder cut out and stitched together at their edges to give the look as if it was actually a piece of fabric.
This was another idea I had. This box is also stitched at all four corners and the inside will hold the twigs which were selected to fit the box.
My original concept for this was to look similar to a diffuser. The cone shape is stitched as well to show detail and follow my original ideas. The twigs are smaller in this model because of the size of the opening.
